Oh Oh… My Baby Bites

[Our baby even bites table top *faint*]

Yup, Devan bites but he is not a ‘serial’ biter. *phew* He picked up biting me (only me) recently, more for the fun of it as what I had observed. Ermm… and the trigger is ME… ya ya it’s me alright.

It started about 1 week ago, his virgin bite was given to me. Ha! Anyway, the first time was when I was resting on the sofa and talking to him. I noticed he showed a great interest on my legs, as if they looked yummy delicious. Slowly, his face drew near… his mouth touched my leg and slowly his bunny teeth sink into my flesh. It was not painful because he was experimenting the sensation and effect. He looked up at me as if expecting some noise; instead I said “No biting.” I guess he finds it no fun because there was no scream or big reaction coming from me. Every now and then he did give me a few nips on the shoulder, arm and leg but they were all very mild.

Yesterday, my spirit was high and Devan just woke up from his afternoon nap. Fresh from a good nap, his smile was as bright as sunshine. I picked up him from his baby cot and buried my face into his tummy, rubbing my face against his little body and along the way I nibbled him a few time with my lips. He squirted happily, swinging his limbs wildly and the next thing he did was planted a bite on my arm. So, now I know why he bites me and only me! He thought this action (biting) was a form of PLAY, all thanks to this silly mommy of his!
………….

I enjoy nibbling my baby, really… but since its sending the wrong message to him, I have to resist from doing it again. *sob* I wouldn’t want him to go around biting others too, thinking it’s a form of PLAY or affection but gets penalize by his harmless intention.

Dylan too was a biter when he was little and he bites everyone in the family. Little did we know the reason why he bites us and we did not take the time to observe and find out, despite him giving us fierce-looking teeth marks. Oh well, I guess being a first-time parent back then we were green and clueless, struggling through our parenthood. Yes? *wink*

Do you have a biter in the family too? Click HERE to read on a very useful article on putting a stop to biting. ^ ^

Hi Rachel,
Mine's a biter when teething. Expecting his vampire teeth to show up anytime and the gums must be aching like mad. Bit me a few days ago when I tried to pry his fingers open (snatched my hp).

Hi,

My girl used to bite me as well and only me. Slowly she "graduated" into biting her gor gor too but more as a sign of anger. We are not sure where she picked that up from and we don't do it to her either. She has outgrown that stage already.

Anyway it is good that you managed to identify the "root of the problem". I have heard of a colleague's friend who got called up by school because his son was biting his classmates. But it wasn't out of ill-will because his father "bites" him during play and the boy was just picking that up from his dad and his parents didn't even realise that earlier!

BTW, Devan is really cute =)

talking about school, that reminds me of an incident which happened to Dylan when he started his Pre-N. he was biten by his classmate and it left a red teeth mark on his hand. good thing Dylan did not pick up this habit from her.

Angeline
hey, lucky you!

today Devan did not show signs of biting. so as long as i restrain myself, he will not be trigger. haha
